Years back, I was driving up John St and stopped at a light. My 4-year-old and my 10 year old were in the car, the windows were down, it was a fine warm fall day. We’re waiting at the light, when all of a sudden, the back door opened and out went my 4-year-old on the driver’s side into the oncoming lane. Thankfully, no traffic and my 10-year-old at that time was really good in a crisis (she still is) and she hopped out and corralled her sister on the side of the road. The light changed and I moved the car and turned around to go back and fetch the girls. When they got back in the car, with as much parental control I could muster, I said, “What happened!?” “It was a bee,” my 4 year old replied nonchalantly, “so I got out of the car.”
Right.
Dale Williams at EOS had a really good blog called Tame the Bees in Your Head. I don’t know about you, but that description was completely apt for the past week month year. Multiple deadlines, multiple crisis and multiple priorities buzzed around my head like a pack of angry bees. I took a moment to listen to what he said. And it made sense. I wrote down everything I was stressing about and then took an hour to categorize the issues into the categories that he suggested.
We are all hustling out there and sometimes you want to turn it all off for a minute and figure it out. But this season especially doesn’t seem to be giving us that option. It’s like that Friends Episode when Ross kept shouting “Pivot!”
But, just for fun, go somewhere quiet (even your car) and give the blog a listen. Just take a quiet moment and tame the bees.
